This summer is HOT + Red for Revolution wins Tribeca!
June was a HOT month for us (and we don't just mean the temperature)!
There is a lot of momentum at BWB and we've had many great conversations with friends, partners, and our contractors as they plan their summer schedules. We've been writing media article, interviewing partners on the Questions to Hold podcast, and have some exciting new client projects that have started over the past few weeks. It feels realllllllly good to have some new energy in the mix.
With growth, there also comes a lot of reflection. Here are some of the highlights we've been thinking about:
1. Business actually is an ebb. And a flow. Entrepreneurship has moments of intense growth as we birth and shape our ideas. It also comes with a lot of uncertainty and challenges - some of which are external and totally out of our control like the economy, an election year, or general market cycles. Every person's journey with entrepreneurship is deeply individual and personal, shaped by our own experiences, values, decisions, and goals. We try to embrace the challenges and celebrate the successes, while staying on the path of growth by intention.
2. Things come in waves and our work is not linear. While we analyze and observe the fluctuations on a month-to-month and year-to-year basis, there are a lot of elements to keep in perspective. Things change all the time. When starting a business from scratch, we can draw some conclusions from the numbers (btw: shout out to our amazing accountants, Jean and Toni for their support!), but it is important to analyze them through multiple lens. And most importantly, to do so with compassion. Cait reflects on this in a recent Authority Magazine article about taking an idea through launching a business.
3. We're continually in the mode of planting seeds for growth. This is an ongoing, continual activity. Casey just published an Authority Magazine article about effective networking strategies. Spoiler alert: we think the term "networking" can be composted and replaced by the idea of community building. This is not a one-time activity, but something we prioritize time and time again.
*Can you tell we love writing Medium articles?

4. Growth requires evolution. Our most recent podcast conversation with Sally Ekus had us thinking about how partnership (and our career growth) evolves alongside our life, business needs, and desires. Sally is a Senior Literary Agent at JVNLA, where she spearheads The Ekus Group, a boutique culinary division specializing in cookbook and lifestyle titles. Have a listen to check out her incredible journey.
5. We all need time off. For BWB during summer months, things tend to slow down a little bit with kids home from school and clients taking vacations. Around holiday times, people take time off. That is great! It is needed. As a small business, it gets easier for us when we plan ahead and communicate around our schedules and availability. Every year in business, we've experimented with our schedules and we make changes over time to fit what works best at that time. Speaking of: BWB will close this Thursday/Friday for the 4th, and again for two week in August to do some recharging and business-focused work in mid-to-late August.
BWB is working with Red for Revolution, an audio drama about love and liberation. In April they were selected by Tribeca Film Festival as a finalist in the audio fiction category. Guess what? They won!
We're so proud of the R4R team, and are sharing a few snaps from their Listening Party at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem a few weeks ago.
